This is one of my favorite weddings i have done so far, Jess the bride looks amazing in her Collette Dinnigan dress and Paul the groom was in  Yalay couture. I love the colours in the cupcakes and the rustic bush surrounds, it’s a great mix of textures and themes. They had a small ceremony of just family, followed by  photos by the talented Tea Lily Photography at Parramatta park. Flowers were by Avanti Florist and Jess’ shoes were by Mimosa. Hair was quite structured but still had movement, and makeup had an emphasis on the eyes with a silver shadow, soft dewy foundation and peachy pink cheeks. This wedding was featured on the wedding website www.labellebride.com as a favorite of theirs. Congratulations Jess and Paul.

I recently received an email from The lovely Kim at KZ Sugar Art regarding supplying our salon with her delicious cookies for our clients to enjoy.

I was impressed by her motivation to contact me with this very generous offer, then i thought i would do some research as to who she was and what the company was about.

I thought the idea was great and had potential to work in many different ways. I then read her story as to why she had started the company and was sad to read the reason. Kim had started expressing her creativity through her embellished cookies but just after starting out her husband died suddenly and left behind her and her small son. Putting her life dream on hold to focus on her son and life without her husband she let the dream go. Now 9 years later Kim has been encouraged by her now teenage son to pursue her dream and start this small business. I was happy to support her.

When i received the cookies this week i thought they were really colourful and nicely packaged and would be great for a special occasion, but when i tasted them my goodness, they are delicious. The cookie melts in your mouth while the embellishment of icing gives you a hit of sugar. They are a bundle of buttery, sugary goodness. They are scary to have around me all the time enticing me to eat them.

I am totally hooked and can’t wait for my wonderful clients to try them too.

You can find these little bundles of naughtiness at KZ SugarArt

Hey guys just wanted to share a recent photo shoot we did, the talented Michael Armstrong has captured some gorgeous images and model Ortanzia looks amazing.

Hair was kept simple but classic with a wispy side chignon and decorated with a handmade silk flower from Summer Blossom.

Makeup done by the ultra talented Hayley, had a natural feel and flawless base with lashes emphasizing the eyes.

Dresses were from Legacy bridal.

Enjoy!

So many beauty products not enough skin to try them all…

As hair and makeup professionals we constantly get asked “What are your favorite products”.

This is for me always so hard to answer as there are so many i have tried over the years, it constantly changes and i never seem to stick to any one brand for the whole regime.

So here i would like to tell you what i am using and loving at the moment. Obviously being such a personal thing, as my skin is pale and dry, i can only give you what i think suits my skin and how i like it to feel. I will however (when time allows) get the other girls to fill you in on their favorites as their skin differs greatly from my own. I would love to hear what your stand out product in your daily regime is, be it skin care or makeup.

Ok so here goes:

Starting with my cleanser, i have been a huge fan of “Dermalogica Essential cleansing solution” for so many years. I love that it gently removes all of my makeup without leaving my skin feeling tight and dry. It has no artificial fragrance or colour. (Over the years i have found these to irritate my skin and cause peeling and flakiness on my forehead). I use a small 10c piece amount mixed with water all over my face, i also use it on my eyes (yes i know not recommended) but it’s so gentle i have never had any stinging or irritation. I remove this with a, hot as you can handle face washer. Then repeat, the first cleanse is to lift the dirt and second cleanse is to remove the dirt.

Then 3 times a week i will add a scrub in there. Usually its a bit of bi-carb soda powder, yes i know what your thinking but this has been an insider beauty tip for years. It’s soft and gentle enough to use every day and your skin feels polished afterwards. I mix it with a dash of water and move around the face in circular motions, then remove with warm water. If im feeling blocked or have had a big day with hairspray, i will do a stronger scrub, i love at the moment “Ikou lotus, bamboo and cananga flower facial scrub”. This product is amazing and leaves my skin feeling super clean, soft and vibrant. I find it gives my usually pale skin a beautiful glow, so much so that i have to use it on my neck and chest just to blend it in. But be mindful this does have essential oil of cananga flower in it for anyone that may be sensitive to oils. This range is also Australian made and owned, they have a beautiful day spa in Leura Blue Mountains and another just opened in Paddington Sydney, but you can also order online at www.ikou.com.au.

I don’t tone at all, i have tried many over the years and have not found it to be of any benefit to me. But i am always open to trying new things so let me know what you love.

Now my favorite part: moisture, this has been the hardest part to get right, i have used (for long duration’s) countless different bottles, that promise me things not even botox can give. As i am 30 now i am starting to find my skin has changed and the fine lines are creeping in around my eyes and mouth. I have noticed in photo’s particularly that my face is not as full and supple as it once was (so sad), and am having to add more moisture and than ever before. Through winter it’s obviously in need of more as i am always in air-conditioning. I have found a brand that was recommended to me for use on dermatitis (occupational hazard), this is a french brand that originates from” Saint-Odile spring” in France. Rooted in dermatology and hydrotherapy, it is great for so many different skin conditions, i even used it on my son’s nappy rash and my nieces eczema. I spray the “Avene Thermal spring water” over my face and this cools it instantly and feels moist and hydrated, then apply the “Avene Hydrance optimal light hydrating cream” of a day time and “Avene rich compensating cream”  of a night. They are non-greasy and have antioxidant protection.

If i am going to be in the sun i always apply a spf30+ separately as i don’t need it in doors and find it blocks my pores if i use it all the time. I have tried many brands and don’t really have a favorite so tell me yours and i will try them.

Sometimes (when i remember), i will use an eye cream, i am currently using the Benefit one “It’s potent! eye cream”, to brighten dark circles. I also love love love their “Lemon aid” for eye priming and concealing.

Now, as i have so many products in my makeup kit and have applied makeup to over 400 people of all different races and skin types, i will give you my most amazing products that i have found.

Base:

MAC- select spf15 -Moisture blend

Laura Mercier- Tinted moisturizer spf 20 illuminous, in all shades

Chanel-Teint Innocence, naturally luminous fluid makeup

Dior- skin nude (heavier coverage)

Natio- pure mineral foundation

Napolean Perdis- foundation stick (heavier coverage)

There are only 2 loose powders i love and they seem to work on everyone:

Laura Mercier – Translucent, loose setting powder (love it)

MAC – Select sheer pressed powder

Eyes:

Any Bobbi Brown eyeshadow or pigment

Any Laura Mercier Eye shadow (especially Black ice or Deep night)

Eyeliner: I love  ”Makeup stores, Golden Days”, and the “Double Wear- stay in place eyeliner from Estee Lauder”

Liquid liner: I love “Kiko- Eye liner in black (the brush is hard for maximum control)

Mascara: It’s hard to beat “Dior Show- waterproof and Extase”

Benefit- High Beam (love love love)

Brows: “Stay don’t stray” from “Benefit Cosmetics” and “Revlon Color Stay eyebrow liner”

Cheeks:

My all time favorite goes to “Clinique Blushing blush powder blush “(Iced lotus is amazing)

I also love the subtle “Mac- Powder Blush”

Now lips are a tricky one and can go really wrong so quickly. Always ensure your lips are conditioned with something natural like “Lucas Pawpaw Ointment” (again good for all kinds of things like nappy rash and i have been known to use it as an eye cream), this enables the colour to go on evenly and not dry up or become “Flaky”.

My absolute stand out lip colour is “Shiseido” in any colour, it’s creamy and shiny but stays on forever.

I also like the “L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick.

I hope you find something you love in here and we would love to know your favorites.
